John Pawson could be called the architect of line. And I don't say this just for the cricket club he made, which was based on two parallel lines, but for the use he gives to lines.
He takes care over the quality of materials and detail. And light is another of the musts of his work.
So many edges (Pawson could be the perfect enemy for Zaha Hadid), apparent simplicity and the use of light gives a monumental appearance to Pawson's works leaving a slight sensation of coldness with a touch of spiritual atmosphere.
Is also very interesting the way he conceives fabric as an achitectural element, dividing different spaces without giving up the feeling os spaciousness they give together (those spaces).
Pawson is so focused on visual harmony that the metallic blinds (the ones used in offices) don't cover only the windows but also the whole wall where the are set up, covering also the heaters.
As a superficial comment; John Pawson's work is based on the beautiful principles of the Chinese Wabi, on the exceptional architecture of the Japanese Shiro Kuramata (1934-1991) and the mexican Luis Barragan (1902-1988) and the incredible minimalist artists Donal Judd (1928-1994) and the luminous Dan Flavin (1933-1996).
Perhaps, all of them, as it was said in the exhibition, made the simple expression of the complex thought.
