BPM
Beats per minute (BPM) is a unit typically used as a measure of tempo in music and heart rate. The BPM tempo of a piece of music is conventionally shown in its score as a metronome mark, as illustrated to the right. This indicates that every one minute there should be 120quarter notes (or crotchets) (1/4). In simple time signatures it is conventional to show the tempo in terms of the note duration on the bottom. So a 4/4 would show a quarter note, as shown to the right, while a 2/2 would show a minim (or half note).

In compound time signatures the beat consists of three note durations (so there are 3 quavers (eighth notes) per beat in a 6/8 time signature) (1/8), so a dotted form of the next note duration up is used. The most common compound signatures: 6/8, 9/8, and 12/8, therefore use a dotted quarter note to indicate their BPM.

“In Iceland, even though you’re in the capital you can always walk for five minutes and you’re on your own. That’s kinda how I’ve worked on my melodies since I was a kid.”
The evidence for this is there in her songs: she says they’re all 83 BPM because that’s the speed she walks at. “Yeah, it’s pretty pathetic!” she laughs, “I’m actually trying to push one of the songs on the album now above 100 BPM but it’s proving hard!”   -Bjork

United Kingdom

In the United Kingdom, it is not possible to bring an action for invasion of privacy. An action may be brought under another tort (usually breach of confidence) and privacy must then be considered under EC law. In the UK, it is sometimes a defence that disclosure of private information was in the public interest. There is, however, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), an independent public body set up to promote access to official information and protect personal information. They do this by promoting good practice, ruling on eligible complaints, giving information to individuals and organisations, and taking action when the law is broken. The relevant UK laws include:

  • Data Protection Act 1998;
  • Freedom of Information Act 2000;
  • Environmental Information Regulations 2004;
  • Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003.

The ICO has also provided a "Personal Information Toolkit" online which explains in more detail the various ways of protecting privacy online.

Today I am writing for you a story which happened inside a flower bulb. And it involves you.

I would like to bring you to my own imagined space. To enter, you have to extend your arm and take my hand...

Welcome.

Today I furnished the walls with the petals of pink orchids. They have the freshness of a recently opened flower-scented fabric softener: some chloroform, some ethanol. And the colours resemble the surfaces of a pink enamel-coated Volkswagen new Beetle. Not only I spray Breeze to moisture the air, but to add a misty atmosphere to the aural effect of the light piercing through the pink orchid petals.

Now that you are in my bulb, your face is covered in moist. Our hands are still held together but they start to slip from each other as we move in circles to breathe the heavily moist atmosphere.
