Cosas que ni a tí ni a mí nos gustan.

Solo quiero traer a la mesa unas notas sobre un artículo del periódico que dan en las entradas de metro gratuitamente (Evening Standard).

El columnista Chris Blackhurst comenta en este texto el tema de las crisis. Y dice: ¨Lo escandaloso es que los banqueros hayan seguido ganando¨

-¨Los bancos se las arreglan para beneficiar a sus accionistas¨

-¨Saben que son demasiado importantes como para que la economía global les deje sin blanca¨

-¨Por lo tanto arriesgan demasiado persiguiendo altos bonuses¨

-¨Como el viento sopla a favor, la proporción del capital de reserva se reduce¨

-¨Con las reservas reducidas y sin impedimentos legislativos los bancos pueden arriesgar más¨

-¨Como la bonanza continua los requisitos para pedir un crédito cada vez son menores, así la gente que antes no pudo conseguir un crédito ahora obtiene lo que quiere¨

-¨Esta persona sabe que no puede pagar la hipoteca pero sabe que puede devolver las llaves cuando le plazca¨

-¨Los banqueros saben que las restricciones para pedir crédito han bajado y que los que manejan los créditos han creado una cadena tan larga que el que presta y el que coge prestado no sabe nada del otro, pero da igual, porque quieren su bonus y si algo falla, da igual, ya les sacarán a flote¨

-¨Así llega un punto en el que el sistema se satura y la inevitable crisis comienza¨

-¨Los políticos necesitan ganar las elecciones así que rápidamente salvan a los bancos¨

-¨El banco central imprime enromes cantidades de dinero, haciendo que el gobierno entre en deuda¨

-¨Este dinero que reciben los bancos vuelve a prestarse haciendo que los bancos paguen su propio rescate con el dinero publico¨

-¨Algunos bancos fallan en su rescate y tienen que fusionarse, haciendo que haya menor competencia y las cuotas de los bancos suban¨

-¨El primero en agarrar el dinero es el banco y como tiene que acabar en alguna parte lo gastan en mercancías e intercambios que hacen que los precios suban haciendo algunos productos prohibitivos para las personas con menor poder adquisitivo¨

-¨Esto afecta a los mercados de la comida, del cambio de dinero, propiedades inmobiliarias...¨

-¨mientras tanto los banqueros siguen jugando su juego, ganado dinero a nuestra costa con el problema que ellos mismos crearon y ganando bonuses incluso mayores que los previos a la crisis¨

Y a qué viene esto -os preguntareis-, bueno es que quería traeros a la magnífica Laurie Anderson y su canción ¨Only an Expert¨. Una cantante que empezé a escuchar hace dos días cuando vi que estaba entre el jurado de la Bienal de Vídeos de YouTube.

Si me permitís, os dejo unas pocas notas más sobre la canción:

-¨A veces los expertos te prestan dinero¨

-¨A veces cuando las hipotecas de alto riesgo se desmoronan¨

-¨Y los bancos cierran y la crisis se expande¨

-¨Otros expertos dicen¨

-¨Que los mercados se hayan colapsado estrepitosamente no es necesariamente algo malo¨

-¨Y otros expertos dicen, solo porque todos tus amigos fueron despedidos y tu familia esta destrozada no quiere decir que tengamos la culpa¨

-¨Y aunque hayas perdido tu casa y tu trabajo no quiere decir que no tengas que pagar el rescate de los bancos por los comerciantes, los bancos y los especuladores¨

-¨Porque solo un experto puede diseñar un rescate y solo un experto puede preverlo¨

Laurie Anderson estará llevando a cabo una performance en marzo en el Barbican de Londres.

Things that neither of us like.

I just wanted to post some notes about an article from the Evening Standard written by Chris Blackhurst that talks about the actual crisis: "The scandal is that bankers have just kept on winning"

-"Banks manage themselves for the benefit of their shareholders"

-"They know they are too important to the economy to be allowed to go bust"

-"They therefore overload on risk"

-"As the good times roll on, they begin to reduce capital reserve ratio requirements"

-"With reserve ratios reduced and legislative impediments removed banks can take more risks"

-"The bonanza continues, so credit standards become progressively lower"

-"So that people who previously would have been refused loans are now offered as much as they want"

-"This person is aware he can't repay it, but does so knowing that he can simply return the keys"

-"Bankers appreciate that credit restrictions are falling and that credit brokers have created a chain so long that lender and borrower know nothing about each other"

-"But they don care because they want their bonus or at worse, they can fall back upon the likely bailout"

-"Once the system is saturated the crisis comes"

-"Politicians need to win elections and quickly agree to bail them out"

-"The lifeboat operation requires enormous amounts of money to be printed from the central bank and also requires huge issues of government debt"

-"The very same bankers get to issue the bonds, collecting massive fees for selling the paper that is needed to fund their own bailout"

-"The bank failures result in merges, which means fewer bigger banks, which means less competition, which means higher fees"

-"The first one to get the new money are the bankers, and because the cash has to end up somewhere they use it to load up on commodities and shares which push prices higher making them out of reach of the world's poor"

-"Some markets are really sensitive as the food one"

-"Meanwhile, bankers carry on playing their game. They have profited at our expense and they are earning even bigger bonuses than before the crisis"

And the reason for quotating almost literally this article is Laurie Anderson and her song "Only an Expert". A singer I started listening to when I discovered she was one of the judges at the YouTube Video Biennial. I hope you listen to the song carefully, here some quotations:
